Ru porcelain is one of the five great kilns of the Song Dynasty in China, originating from Ruzhou, Henan Province, and is renowned for its distinctive “sky-blue glaze.”The traditional craftsmanship of Ru porcelain is highly intricate, involving multiple processes such as mineral selection, clay refining, wheel throwing, trimming, biscuit firing, glazing, and kiln firing. One of its core techniques is the use of “agate infused into the glaze,” which gives the finished surface a jade-like smoothness and a soft sky-blue tone, naturally forming delicate crackle patterns.Ru porcelain is fired in a high-temperature reduction flame kiln, requiring extremely precise control of temperature and timing. It is often said that “one color enters the kiln, but thousands of variations emerge from it.”The final works embody an elegant and understated beauty, reflecting the Song Dynasty’s Eastern aesthetic philosophy of nature, serenity, and refinement.
